  5. they’re Real!
  6. Hervana

This is the first installment where I share all of my favorite makeup products! I didn’t really care for makeup when I was younger. I really, really loved it when I was going through the awkward jr. high phase of acne. I had it bad, too. Concealer was my number 1 friend. I’m pretty positive I wore the wrong shade and didn’t blend well. Eh. It’s all good. I survived. And now I somehow manage to have great skin. Or so I’ve been told. 😉

My love for makeup happened when I started working at Ulta a couple years back. Don’t get me wrong, I wore makeup. CoverGirl for everything. I didn’t wear much. Foundation, blush, mascara. And, sometimes eyeshadow. Nothing fancy. I learned so much once I started at Ulta. I’ll admit, I became a makeup snob.

I like the higher end products because of how well they are made, how long they stay on, how they actually go on, just to name a few reasons. Also, the packaging is really cute typically. I’m all about the packaging. Really, it’s how I pick out wine. 😉

  1. Erase Paste is a life saver. You really do not need a lot. A little bit goes a long way. The paste is amazing for covering dark circles under the eyes. I feel like mine are super bad, and so I dab this on, and all done! Instant brightness!
  2. Watts Up is a highlighter. Now, I do not wear this everyday. Just special occasions or when I want a little bit of a boost. The color is champagne and it goes on very smoothly. And hello! The packaging is ADORABLE! It has a sponge on the other end to blend. Don’t forget that part. Fun fact: my dad once told me my face looked greasy when I had this on. 🙂 Dads…
  3. Porefessional is a primer. My oh my, it’s wonderful. It goes on extremely smooth. It minimizes my pores, and makes my skin look flawless.
  4. Instant brow. I need another one. I’m all about eyebrows. They need to have definition. And they actually need to be there. I like them on the fuller side. Mine aren’t full. They are on the thicker side, but not very full. This is the perfect tool to get them looking fantastic.
  5. they’re Real mascara. Simply put? Amazing. They really do make your lashes all long and full looking. Definitely my favorite. I’m currently wearing BADgal masacara. It’s okay, but I prefer they’re Real.
  6. Hervana blush. The colors are absolutely beautiful. Sweep your brush over all those beauties, and then sweep on your cheeks. Perfection.

There it is. My first edition of my favorite beauty products. Benefit Cosmetics is one of my favorite brands. I’m always talking them up whenever I get a chance. Check them out! They have SO many wonderful products. Even if you don’t want to buy anything, just check out how adorably cute their brand is. Do it. You’ll fall in love. See you next time!

My Whole 30. Again.

I had done the Whole30 months back. I discovered it when I read another blogger was currently doing it. I started to read more and instantly got super excited to try it out. I’ve been struggling with my weight for like ever and thought, well, why not! I won’t go into what Whole30 is, but feel free to check it out for yourself here.

Before I did Whole30, I felt okay. Not great, but not horrible. I was always tired, sluggish, everything gave me heartburn. I wasn’t the world’s healthiest eater, and did indulge in my sweets. And bread. Oh how I love me some crusty bread. With cheese. Oh dear. Moving on… On the flip side, I wasn’t a terrible eater either. I ate fruits and veggies and other healthy foods. As to working out. Well, that was pretty much non existent. I was going to the gym for a good while, but fell off that wagon. Has anyone experienced that?! I better not be alone here!

I had been wanting to change how I looked and felt, and Whole30 was a great first step. 30 days. That’s all I needed to try it out. I could do it. And I did! The first week was…OMG…GIMME ALL THE FOODS! But I stuck to my guns and did not cave in. GO ME! The next three weeks were a breeze. Honestly. The food was delicious and I wasn’t wanting sugar all that much. I was happy without it. The best part? NO HEARTBURN! Yup. It was wonderful! My Tums bottle stayed in the cabinet. Buh Bye! I also was feeling energetic. Happy. Alive. I could conquer the world. By the end, I had dropped 20 pounds. My clothes were fitting so much better. I could see a difference. Especially in my face. It was such a glorious feeling. I was really proud of myself for finishing 30 days strong. I honestly did not think I could do it. I for sure gave myself a pat on the back.

And then it ended. Oh boy. I should have just stuck to it! I didn’t fall back into my horrible eating habits, but I didn’t keep up all of the changes I had made. Silly me. I’m back to feeling sluggish, gross, and I have heartburn. Tums pretty much lives on my bedside table. Ugh.

Tomorrow is the start of my journey again with Whole30. I know I can do this. I will do this. I want to feel and look better. Join me on my adventure, won’t you? I’ll be blogging my ups and down. And posting on Instagram with the hashtag #mapgettingfit

This is the beginning of getting back to being healthy. I have NO desire to fit into society’s idea of the ideal weight/shape/look for a woman. I believe I’ll always have curves. I’m more than okay with that.  This year I’m going to start accepting and loving who I am. This is my one and only shot, right? I’m only getting this one body, I should probably treat it better. 😉 However, I do love me some cupcakes… I don’t plan on depriving myself of what I enjoy, I just need to learn on how to do it a lot better. You know, not going overboard. Enough of my babbling, right?!

Has anyone done Whole30? I’d love to hear your stories. Or if anyone has any tips, recipes, comments on diet/exercise, I’d love to hear ’em! Here I go!

DIY: Painted Planters

I’ve been pretty excited about these planters. When I started my new job and got to see where I’ll be spending 8 hours of my day, I knew that my area needed some life. Since there aren’t any windows, I decided to use succulents and cacti. I must say, my cubicle is now pretty fancy. I’ve gotten many compliments on my pots and my adorable plants. If you follow me on Instagram, you have gotten a sneak peek at my art. 🙂

Here is what you will need:

  • Pots. Pick whichever size you prefer. I stayed with the smaller sizes since these were going on a shelf in my cubicle. I got mine at my local craft store, Pat Catans.
  • Paint. I went with the Americana brand, and Dazzling Metallics. Acrylic paint. All purpose. Pick any colors that you want! Some of the colors I picked are: black, white, coral blush, pistachio mint, graphite, slate gray, turquoise blue, banana cream, rich espresso (metallic), emperor’s gold (metallic), spa blue.
  • Paint Brushes. I didn’t buy expensive brushes, just a cheap pack that had various sizes for  detail uses.
  • Sponge Brushes. Various sizes again. They were cheap, so we got a lot. It made it simple when painting large areas.
  • Mod Podge. Gloss. You need this to seal it all in. Plus it makes it all shiny and pretty.
  • Painters Tape. If you want to keep lines straight. I kept mine very rustic. The lines weren’t straight, but I really liked it!
  • Plants! You can pick out any kind that you find to be pretty. The succulents I chose were chocolate soldiers, snow white panda, ogre ears, and cacti.
  • More Dirt. I got some fresh dirt to plant my plants into.

I had very little ideas as to how I wanted to paint the pots. The colors I chose all went very well together, so, I just painted. I did color blocking, stripes, polka dots for example. There isn’t much that I can tell you as to how to do this DIY. You just paint to your hearts content!

If you are going to be using painters tape, I would go ahead and put that on first to get your lines all perfect. Depending on what color you are using, you may need to use multiple coats. The paint dries fairly quickly, but I wouldn’t be rushing. Take your time. Once the paint is dry, remove the tape and finish the empty parts if need be. You want to use small strokes to try to make the paint even. I had a hard time with the white. It kept streaking, it doesn’t look bad, but I’m sort of a perfectionist. 🙂

Once you are all done with the paint and it’s dried. Apply the Mod Podge. With this, make sure you apply and even coat so it will all dry evenly. It paints white but will dry clear, so do not worry!

When the Mod Podge is dried (15-20 minutes), you may plant your plants. This was the messy part! I really enjoyed this though. And then, you are done! Here is how mine turned out:

Ah! Aren’t they just SO beautiful?!

picstitch-6More detailed pictures, so you get to see all the way around! There were 2 more small pots that I had painted, but did not put a plant in. I ended up giving one to my mom. I had left over ogre ears that I passed on to her. Here are the pictures of how the plants look on my shelf at work:

These plants truly liven up the place. It doesn’t hurt that 2 out of the 4 are fuzzy and soft. 🙂 I hope you get a chance to do this DIY. You will absolutely LOVE how they turn out. And don’t worry if you think you aren’t artistic enough to give this a try. You totally got this!

It’s never too late!

I’ve been meaning to post this for like ever. However, that did not happen. Obvs. Life got in the way. I’m sure everyone is familiar with that. I wanted to share everything that happened with my birthday celebrations! I know, you are probably thinking, “Maria, it’s been forever since that happened…”, but stick with me!

Friday night I had some of the girls over for craft night! We all painted planters and two of us made clay coasters. I will not be sharing that part because they did not turn out so hot! You live and learn. But I’ve been SO excited about the planters. I had the idea when I started my new job and sat in my cubicle. I have a shelf in there that just screamed plants. There are no windows where I am, so, plants were a must. But of course, I needed something that would survive without the sun. Succulents and cacti for the win. I’ll be posting a DIY for the planters here soon. I promise. It was a really fun night. We ordered pizza, had some tunes playing, had some drinky drinks, talked…SO MUCH FUN! Here are some scenes:
picstitchpicstitch-2

Aren’t those some great pictures? It really was such a fun night. I didn’t share any of my pots really since I plan on doing another post. All of the girls did such a wonderful job. Pretty much all of us are artists who will be paid millions one day. One day…

On Saturday I had to take my car in for an oil change. #adultlife. Troy and I then got such after at Panera before heading to Old Navy. Mama needed some new clothes! My sis got me a gift card for there and I really wanted a new outfit to wear for going out. I ended up getting a skirt (or 2) and a top (or 3). Success. Once we got home, I relaxed before taking a shower and getting all pretty. We met my parents for dinner at a Mexican joint. It’s one of my favorite places.

IMG_2441

I got a berry mojito and a chicken chimichanga. Doesn’t it all look DELICIOUS?! I could have that everyday. I then would not feel so great, but you know what I mean. After dinner, we came back to our apartment to hang out before heading out for drinks at Razzles. A local watering hole. My friends met up and we sat outside on the second floor patio. I really hate sitting outside, especially when it’s hot and sunny. But this was covered, and it was cool, so it totally was awesome. I had a handful of shots and drank summer shandy. It was perfect.

The top picture is my skirt that I got and the bottom picture is of my parents. Aren’t they just adorable?!

IMG_2595
And those are my friends. I absolutely love this collection of pictures. The next day, I had to delete over 100 pictures thanks to one of my friends who shall not be named. 😉 I had such a blast though.

On Sunday, I woke up tired. Not hungover. Thankfully. I slept pretty much all morning. It was glorious. Then a friend and I went to see Pitch Perfect 2. Anyone see it? I liked it! However, I didn’t recognize some of the songs. I think that means I’m old – that’s what my friend said at least. 🙂 We had popcorn, pop, and candy. No one annoyed me in the theater so that’s always a huge plus. It was a successful movie trip.

That was pretty it for my birthday outings. The rest of that Sunday was spent relaxing and waiting for Game of Thrones. There it is! Now you all can stop wondering what I ended up doing to celebrate. 😉

Hazelnut Frappuccino

I promise that all of the recipes that I post will not contain hazelnuts. Actually, I should not promise that. 😉

We went out to dinner with my parents yesterday for my birthday. (More on that to come this week!). After, we came back to our place to hang out and have some coffee before we met up with friends for drinks. It was really hot yesterday. Like, 200 degrees. Yes, that’s an exaggeration. I’m not one for hot weather or humidity. I don’t look forward to summer. I’m more of a fall/winter kind of gal. So once the hotter temperature comes, I complain. A lot. I apologize in advance. Plus, it was really warm inside the restaurant. That’s not very comfortable. I knew that I did not want a hot cup of coffee when we got back. Instead, I thought of making frappuccinos! Advice? Make sure you have ice ready. Merp. My ice was not totally frozen. My drinks were more like room temp coffee. Not so great. However, my dad really liked it. 🙂 I was kind of bummed that it didn’t turn out how I wanted. So, today I decided to give it another try. This time, my ice cubes were 100% frozen. I was setting myself up for success, my friends.

There isn’t much when it comes to the ingredients. I used hazelnut coffee. You could use any type/kind of coffee that you like. No rules. I used coconut milk. Again, you can just use whatever you have. Ice. Don’t forget that! And last but not least, Nutella. I had some left over from when I made those cupcakes. I think the Nutella adds just the right touch.

Hazelnut Frappuccino
3 cups cold coffee (any flavor, I used hazelnut for this)
3/4 cup coconut milk
1 and 1/2 trays of ice cubes
2 tablespoons of Nutella

I have a Keurig and used one K-Cup for the coffee. I just used the same K-Cup and brewed it twice. I put the hot coffee in the freezer to cool it down quicker. You want to use cold coffee so when you add the ice, it doesn’t just melt. Remember, we are making a frappuccino here. Once the coffee is cool, put it in the blender. Add the coconut milk. And then the ice. I blended it for 15 seconds and then added the Nutella. I kept blending until it was the consistency that I was after. If it doesn’t seem like it’s coming together and looks like it could use more liquid, add some more milk. We want it to be creamy. When it’s looking good, go ahead and taste it. I thought it was perfect. Not too sweet. I did not add any more sugar than what’s in the Nutella, but if you like your coffee on the sweeter side, you can add sugar. All that’s left is to pour it in a glass, sit back, and relax. Not too bad, right?

IMG_2580
IMG_2582

Ah, don’t they just look so refreshing? It was a really tasty treat. Cold. Coffee. Hazelnut. Cannot go wrong. Plus, I didn’t even have to leave my apartment to get one!

Yes, those are wine glasses. I didn’t have any cute cups that were fitting. I wanted to use those straws, and they matched better with a simple cup. This frappuccino was definitely better than the one I made yesterday. I call this another hit! You will not be disappointed when you make this! Go and enjoy!

Chocolate Cupcakes. Marshmallow Fluff. Nutella Buttercream.

Wowza! That is quite a delicious cupcake, if I do say so myself. Like I stated in my other post, I made those for my birthday which was on Monday. I knew I wanted to do a chocolate cake, but wasn’t quite sure what else should go with it. There are just too many options. I originally was going to do a peanut butter mousse. Oh. My. Word. Peanut butter mousse is heavenly. However, it just didn’t seem special enough for my birthday, ya know? Then it hit me. Nutella. I’m such a sucker for anything hazelnut. Really. And who doesn’t enjoy Nutella?! It’s absolutely delightful! Okay. So. I had my chocolate cupcake and Nutella buttercream. It just needed an extra kick. I couldn’t come up with it! I asked Troy for his opinion, and we bounced ideas off of each other. And then there it was. Marshmallow. Homemade marshmallow of course. How dreamy it would be to bite into a cupcake and have the fluffiness of marshmallow ooze out. Yum! That is the story behind this perfect cupcake.

Does anyone follow Sally’s Baking Addiction? I absolutely adore her and all of her goodies. I use her recipe for the chocolate cupcake. It works every time. I wish I was super cool enough to have my own recipe, but I do not. One day! For now, Sally is my BFF. Click here for her recipe for the chocolate cupcake. You honestly won’t be disappointed.

IMG_2158-2

Don’t they look just perfect? And those liners! Those are from Wilton. I found them at Giant Eagle. (That’s a grocery store for those not familiar). I’m a huge fan of liners that keep their color and patterns. I thought they would be quite fitting for the occasion. You can get them here.

I made 2 dozen of the cupcakes from Sally, and 1 dozen from Against All Grain. I’ve been wanting to dabble into the Paleo world of baking. And this recipe, was a huge success. My coworker has her cookbooks and was kind enough to lend me them to flip through. She also sent me a picture of the chocolate cake recipe since I hadn’t yet bought the books. I highly recommend this recipe and checking out her blog and books!

Once the cupcakes were all done baking and they were all cooling together on the rack, it was time to make the marshmallow fluff. By this time, it was 10PM on Sunday night. I started baking at 7, took a break at 9 for Game of Thrones (duh), and then got right back to it. I wanted to make the fluff easily. I didn’t want to spend time with the candy thermometer or using corn syrup… gimme something quick and easy!

Marshmallow Fluff
3 Egg Whites
2/3 Cup of Sugar
Healthy Pinch of Cream of Tartar
1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract

You’ll need a small pot with a little water in it to be simmering. Then, a heatproof bowl will go on top of the simmering water. The egg whites, sugar and tartar should all be in that heatproof bowl. Start whisking!! Use those muscles! You want to keep whisking until the mixture is warm. I just used the tip of my finger to determine if it was warm or not. Once the mixture is warm, transfer to the mixer (or use a hand mixer). Beat on high until stiff and glossy peaks form. It’s such a beautiful thing. Breathtaking, perhaps. You will want to beat the vanilla in there. I use my homemade extract. Mine was at the end of the bottle, and it had A LOT of beans. Talk about an explosion of flavor from those. I used a little more than one teaspoon just because I really really really like vanilla extract. That’s the marshmallow. See, it’s easy. IMG_2162

Can you see all of those little specs?! That’s the vanilla. Such a wonderful site. Doesn’t that fluff look like a cloud that you just want to jump on?! Ugh. I love it! I easily could have eaten the whole bowl. No shame.

I usually core out the middle of the cupcakes when I make a filling, but I wanted to try just cutting a slit along, and then piping the fluff in. I used disposable piping bag and a small tip. I think I’ll stick to carving a core into the cake. It would be easier to do, in my opinion.

Nutella Buttercream
Nutella
Room Temperature Butter (I used 4 sticks because I had 3 dozen cupcakes)
Powdered Sugar
Vanilla Extract
Heavy Cream (Optional)

Cream the butter together until it’s all light and well, creamy. Add powered sugar. I don’t have an exact measurement because I just sort of dump. I start with about half a cup at a time. I have a tendency to not put in a lot of sugar in my buttercreams. Once the sugar is mixed with the butter. Add the Nutella. Again, no exact measurement for me. I had to pipe 3 dozen cupcakes, so I used just about a full jar. Make sure to taste along the way, that way you can add more if you want a stronger flavor. If the frosting is too thick, that’s where the heavy cream comes into play. Just add a little bit at time until it’s the consistency that you want. Try really hard not to eat all of the frosting until you have piped all your cupcakes. It was really hard for me, to be honest.

I used 2 of my favorite tips for piping the cupcakes. Perhaps I’ll have a post about my favorite tips and how to pipe. That’ll be fun! Piping the cupcakes is probably my favorite part. They each turn out a little different, and I like it.

IMG_2167
IMG_2166

And that’s the awesome tower and carrier. Isn’t all just so pretty?! That can also hold cake pops. Fun, right?! It did not come with the ribbon. I had some left over from my wedding and thought it would go perfectly with everything. Ah! I just love it SO much!

IMG_2168

The cover it perfect. Plus the handle. It’s the greatest! I got it at Bed Bath & Beyond. 30 bucks. Not a bad deal! I also love that it has mint details. 🙂

Like I said, the cupcakes were a huge hit and people are still talking about it. I’ve had multiple people tell me to make those again. Some found it weird that I baked cupcakes for my own birthday. Maybe it is. I don’t think it was. I wanted a yummy treat, and I wanted to show off. 😉 You gotta celebrate!

My List

I was going to add this to my previous post, but I didn’t want it to be super long. So, I’ll do it separate. I wanted to make a list of goals/wants/whatever it may be for my to accomplish within a year. I’m sure you’ve seen something like this around the internet already, but this is mine. I’ll be honest, I’m really good at starting something or wanting something, and I never follow through. Ok, never might be pushing it, but it feels like it sometimes. My thinking is, if I put this list together for people to see, I’m more likely to follow through. Hold me accountable, people! Here it goes…

  1. Work Out! I was doing really well for a good while with constantly being at the gym. But, I fell off that wagon. I’m wanting to be more healthy.
  2. Eat Healthier! This is a tough one, but yet an easy one. Not sure how to describe it. Sugar is my weakness. Eating my emotions is something I do. But yet, I know that I can definitely eat a lot healthier. I did it when I accomplished Whole 30. I felt SO GREAT! I need that back.
  3. Read More! I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE reading. Especially World War 2 novels. I really would like to get back into reading books. Not necessarily war novels, just a book that strikes my fancy.
  4. Get My Library Card! This would help me with #3. It’s been a really really long time since I’ve seen it. I’ll need a new one.
  5. Learn to Cook! I can cook. But, can I cook very well? Ha, no! I do really well with baking because there isn’t too much wriggle room. I feel like with cooking, you can do pretty much whatever! I need to get better at it. That way I can treat my husband to something really delicious. Not under seasoned and overcooked chicken…
  6.  Get My Hair Cut! This is an easy one. It’s on my list because I can easily go forever without cutting it. I’ll also complain about it. Like, all the time. I want an asymmetrical cut again.
  7. Grow This Blog! I’m really excited to see where this baby can take me. I know this blog is quite rough right now, but I hope to learn more and make it really cool. Like it’s writer. 😉
  8. Be More Social! I’m quite the introvert. I really like just being at home. I know there is nothing wrong with that, but I’m quick to say no to social gatherings. I easily get anxiety over new situations, big groups, new people, etc. I’m hoping to squash that so to speak and just do!
  9. Scrapbook! I want to make a scrapbook of my wedding. I had a lot of fun (somewhat…) with planning and seeing it all come together. Our wedding was really unique, and I want to make sure I have something to flip through. Steampunk vintage romance forever!
  10. Bake More! I absolutely love baking. I think you know that already. There are SO many recipes that I want try. I just haven’t…
  11. Etsy! I plan on talking about this on a different day.. stay tuned.
  12. TV Time! I watch WAY too much television. There are just so many good shows. What’s a girl to do?! I really want to see what all I can accomplish with less tv time.  I don’t really want to give it up though… the struggle.
  13. Zoo! I adore the zoo. I haven’t been there in about forever. I miss it.
  14. Sister Time! I haven’t visited my sister in way too long of a time. The last time I saw her was my wedding which was in October. She lives out in California and is going to be having a baby in November! I NEED to make my way out there.
  15. Coding! I have basic knowledge on how to code. I really did not enjoy coding in college. I’m a print snob and thought coding was not for me. Silly girl. It’s ALL about coding these days…
  16. Become More Confident! I plan on talking about this topic down the road. I’m sometimes confident. Rarely, perhaps. I want to be happy with who I am and what I look like. There is NO ONE else out there that looks like me. I need to embrace myself. And so what if I don’t fit society’s standards of beauty?! I never want to be a size 2. My body is not made for that size. I like my curves. Perhaps I just don’t want as many.  🙂
  17. Movie By Myself! I want to try it. I’ve always been too nervous to do it in the past and would just make Troy tag along. Yep. I made him go to the Twilight movies with me. Love. I bet I would really like to go to the movies by myself. Well, I typically get annoyed by like everyone. We shall see!
  18. Travel! I’m good with starting out with mini weekend trips. Before I have kiddos, I want to travel. That way grandma and grandpa won’t always be watching them.
  19. Save! Save! Save! I’m not very good at saving money. I need to be better.
  20. Try New Restaurants! There are SO many in Cleveland that I have yet to visit. Troy and I are foodies. He turned me into one.
  21. Try New Food! This goes along with the one above. I’ve really branched out since meeting Troy, but I know that I can be better. Mind over matter.
  22. Crafty! I enjoy being artsy. I’m inspired often. I want to do so many crafts. But I don’t. Actually, I’m hosting a craft night later this week. I can cross this off! I jest.
  23. No More Second Guessing! This kind of goes with being more confident. But I struggle with this often. I never just go for it. I never trust my gut. I’m constantly second guessing myself. And it’s draining.
  24. Be More Kind! Again, this can go with some of the others above. I beat myself up. A lot.  I need to be kind to myself. Would I ever treat my friend the way that I treat myself? No. So therefore, I need to stop. It’s hindering. I need to shine!
  25. Baseball! I haven’t been to a baseball game in a long while. I need to go. I don’t get into watching them on TV. It’s a lot more fun in person. Plus there is beer and hot dogs.
  26. Paint My Nails! I have so many polishes. I just don’t do it. Am I lazy about it? Yes. Do I have patience? No. This should change. I love the idea of painted nails. I just need to actually do them.
  27. Just Be Happy! That’s all. 🙂 I don’t want to stress as much anymore. You can’t help life, but you can take control over the stress. I need to do that.

27 Years.

Old. I’m 27 years old. I cannot believe it! My parent’s were not kidding when they say that time flies. I for sure still feel like a kid. Perhaps that’s a good thing! When I buy alcohol, I sometimes get carded and that still feels pretty cool. One time, I was told I looked like I was 18. Well. I don’t know about looking THAT young, but I’ll take it.  🙂

It was a great day yesterday! I made cupcakes to take into work. Chocolate, with homemade marshmallow fluff in the middle, topped with nutella buttercream. Right?! It’s my new favorite. I even made a gluten free option. My first. I’ll be posting more on my cupcakes tomorrow. I also bought the CUTEST cupcake carrier ever. The one my mom had gotten me a while back was absolutely perfect. However, the handles started to snap and it just wasn’t working anymore. Anyway…the morning started out pretty well. I wore a mint striped dress from Target with a grey cardigan. I meant to get a picture, but I failed. And, nude flats. I was really paranoid that the cupcakes would all tip over on my commute to work. That did not happen (thank God) but I did get stuck in traffic. Accident on the highway. I don’t think anyone was hurt. But I truly hate being SO late to work. It makes me anxious. Luckily, I was only 15 minutes late. When I got to my cube, I saw this waiting for me: IMG_2169

Everything wasn’t open, btw. I took the picture after I tore it all open. Macaroons. Yum. Yum. Yum. They are my new obsession. My friend got those for me. And isn’t that card adorable? Love. Those macaroons though…swoon.

IMG_2172

Doesn’t it just look so dreamy?! That was the raspberry one – I had it for lunch. The last 2 are sitting on my coffee table right now. They are basically staring me down begging me to eat them. I have no shame about the fact that in only 2 days, I have 2 left. 🙂

The work day went by super fast and everyone loved my cupcakes. There were none left. I mean, that always happens, so It’s not a shocker. 😉 I was just really happy to head home. Why?! Well, Troy was making the first meal he ever made me when we started dating. Chicken marsala, mushroom risotto, and broccolini.

IMG_2174Not the absolute picture, but there it is.

Oh man, it was fantastic! My parents also came over for dinner and to hang out. I love seeing them. We had strawberry shortcake for dessert, and then called it a night. To be honest, I was passed out by 9:30 PM. Again, no shame!

Happy Birthday to me!

What’s been happenin’ this week.

Where did I leave off…oh! It was May 4th. Day before Cinco De Mayo! Hope everyone had a fun and safe day. Anyone sick of tacos?! I sure am not! At work, we had a fiesta! That also included margaritas. Jelly?! Well, don’t be. They were virgin. Sigh. But, it was still pretty tasty. There was SO much food. Ground beef, chicken, rice, beans, cheese, olives, onions, tomatoes, 5 pounds of sour cream (right?!), chips, salsa…I’m probably missing something. But, you get the picture. Everyone in the building was invited and I think a good amount of people showed up. I made myself a soft taco with a side of chips and a margarita. Of course. I was part of the clean up crew afterwards. I was definitely okay with that since it meant I got a little break from work. I think it was a pretty darn successful fiesta!

After work, my friend was having her own get together. Troy and I volunteered to make some food. We made a spicy salsa, guac, and a roasted corn and black bean salsa. Think Chipotle, but 10x better. Would anyone be interested in seeing recipes? Let me know! All three were a huge hit. Not a shocker. My friend had a decent spread! Ground meat, chicken, all the fixin’s, cilantro lime rice, beans…. yummy! AND, she had margaritas. Real ones. Gimme the alcohol!

That’s my strawberry margarita. I couldn’t wait for it to get in ma belly! It definitely hit the spot. Isn’t the glass adorable?! Loved them. And can I just mention how much I love her table cloth and the table bench (booth?!)… I have to admit, I’m totally jealous of her apartment decor. Back to the party! Not much left to say – we all ate, drank, talked and had a great time!

Yesterday after work, I went to Lake Isaac for a photoshoot. Not mine. It was for my friend. She has a fashion blog and had a photoshoot done with a chuck of outfits. The photographer is also a good friend of mine. I was there mostly for the social aspect. Here are some snapshots:

And there you have it. That was my adventure at the lake. It was great evening. Beautiful as you can see in those last two photos. You should check out notsohammy.wordpress.com and photosbymariposa.com. Those are some really great gals.

Today was spent going to a coffee shop that’s right around the corner for the first time. The Village Bean. It was a quaint little place. The coffee was really good. Troy got a buckeye (peanut butter and chocolate) mocha and I got a caramel macchiato. It wasn’t overly sweet which I really enjoyed. After that, we went grocery shopping. Came back home and relaxed. I painted my toenails, and eventually made a late lunch. Nothing too fancy, just chicken, sweet potato and mushrooms. We eventually made our way to hang out with my mom. We went to Winking Lizard. Just the three of us. My dad was at a band job or else he would have been there too. It was a lot of fun! I always enjoy hanging with the mama. Throw in some food, some beer, the husband, and it’s a great time! We hung out for a little bit more at my parent’s house and then just came back home. I have to say, the day went by SUPER fast but it was productive and fun.

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day! We will be at my grandparents in the afternoon. What is everyone else up to? I don’t think we have anything else going on tomorrow. I’ll be baking some cupcakes! I’d tell you, but I’ll most likely do a post about them. I just absolutely love baking cupcakes. Why might I be baking cupcakes, you ask? Even though it is Mother’s Day…Monday is my birthday! Woohoo!! I’ll be the big 2 7. I’m basically 30… oy.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far!

May the Fourth Be With You

I told you I would! Such a nerd, I know. Fun fact. I recently just watched the original Star Wars movies like a handful of months ago. I have this aversion to movies that are older. However I love everything vintage. It doesn’t make much sense, I know. When Troy and I got married, our DJ who is a good friend, added little nerdy music touches. And one of them was a song from Star Wars in the cantina. The cantina song? Eh, not sure. That song was playing as we were cutting cake. At that time, I didn’t pay much attention since I hadn’t seen the movies. But when Troy had me watch them and the song came on, I freaked out! It was super exciting. And I enjoyed the movie! There you go. Cool story right?

After work today, I made dinner. Typically, as in 99% of the time, Troy is the one who is cooking. Hey, he’s the one that went to culinary school! Not my fault. I wanted to take this challenge of me doing the cooking for one whole week. I made a mostly paleo dinner which I plan on talking more detail about hopefully later this week! I’ll have to keep you posted on my adventure of cooking!

Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo! Woohoo! Gimme all the tacos! We are having a fiesta at work. And then after work, my friend is having a gathering at her apartment. I was supposed to bake. But, I got home, made dinner, Troy (and me, a little bit) made guac, salsa, and a corn/black bean salsa. After that and all of the cleaning, it’s pretty much bed time. I’m exhausted! On that note, I’m going to curl up in bed and snooze.

Enjoy the day tomorrow! Be safe! I’ll be sure to share some photos!
